Oils For Your Face.
That’s right, completely natural and organic botanical oils for your face hold the key to skin preservation and natural beauty.
But let’s rewind just a minute…
A Cluttered Medicine Cabinet, Google and a Quest for Something Healthier
I had just rid my shelves of cleansers, toners, creams, moisturizers and all the other chemically laden, toxic skin care products that had outstayed their welcome in my medicine cabinet. Google and I had spent way too much time together lately, researching lists of skin care and makeup ingredients one should avoid – lists that seemed never ending and truly mind boggling.
What led me to spend countless hours scouring the Internet reading study after study?
I had previously made drastic changes to my diet, eating organic and semi-raw. It was a very exciting time in my life. Change was in the air. But it got me thinking… in the quest for a healthier lifestyle, I was spending all this time focusing on what I put into my body, but what about what I put on my body?
Side Note: It’s a known fact that the skin is our body’s largest organ. Much of what is applied to the skin is absorbed into the body.
I came to the realization that my skin care routine was being completely neglected. I owed it to myself to start digging and learn as much as I could. I was already noticing how simple changes in my diet was starting to improved not only my sensitive skin, but my sister’s as well – she had suffered from severely sensitive/acneic skin from a very young age. So what would a truly natural skin care regimen do for us?
The search began. I was on the hunt for truly natural, organic skin care products with ingredients that came from the earth, not a test tube.
Five Minutes with the Back of a Product Label
With every search came disappointment and feelings of deception. First, how could a company claim to be organic when most of the ingredients in their products were in fact not truly organic? Second, many of these ingredients, regardless of being organic or not, had no real skin benefits (example: water, commonly referred to as aqua on product labels). For a simple sanity check, I took a few of the ingredients that were labeled organic and did a very basic skin benefit search. My results were again, very disappointing. Many of these ingredients were cheap and sold in bulk, as fillers, to cut down product costs, and increase company profit margins.
I not only felt confused, but initially defeated. This wasn’t going to be easy. I needed to approach things differently, from another angle. I began researching natural and organic skin care ingredients with healing benefits, and gave up on finding a ready made product.
Oils… Yes Natural Oils for Your Face.
And that’s when I discovered oils for your face – organic, all natural oils from plants, nuts, seeds and berries (like the amazing oil cold pressed from sea buckthorn berries pictured above). How could this be, with all the propaganda against face oils and advertisements promoting oil free products?
Warning: Many conventional “oil free” cream based moisturizers generally consist of synthetic ingredients and preservatives that are not as easily absorbed by your skin, thus leaving a film on your skin and clogging your pores. Many of these preservatives and artificial ingredients can also be carcinogenic, inevitably accelerating the aging process.
Ok, I get it, the artificial cheap oils (many of which are petroleum based), are bad for your skin, but why had I never heard of the benefits of using natural oils for your face? The information I discovered was astounding. I was bursting with excitement. Could these oils really prevent and reduce wrinkles? Heal acne, rosacea, psoriasis, burns, and even scars? If so, what would these oils do for someone without severe skin problems? Could great skin become amazing skin?
The answer is YES!
Topical “Superfoods” For Your Skin?
Put very simply, natural, organic oils resemble your skin’s own sebum (the waxy/oily substance your skin’s sebaceous glands secrete to lubricate/waterproof/protect the skin’s surface). This close resemblance (in part due to their molecular size, but I wont get all scientific on you), allows natural oils to easily penetrate the skin. These same natural, organic oils do not clog pores or cause breakouts, contrary to what many have been brainwashed into believing. In fact, when absorbed into the skin, these natural oils, packed with vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids and amazing anti-oxidants, not only moisturize, heal, rejuvenate, calm, and restore, but also serve to preserve youthful skin.
These inherent properties contained within the botanical oils are the true secrets to youthful, glowing skin and harmful, potentially toxic, lab made ingredients should never be an option in skin care regimens! (If your skin could speak, it would second this.)
Having experimented with many different oils throughout this journey (and still to this day), I’ve discovered though natural and organic, not all oils are created equal. I wanted to use only the most potent, nutrient-dense oils that would deliver nothing short of life changing results. With that mind set, only the best of the best made it into my formulas.
