Vitamin C For Your Skin: What You Should Know

Sharing is Caring

C is For Complexion

Yes, you read that correctly!  The beloved vitamin we use to help boost our immune system during the cold and flu season can also do wonders for our complexion.

Vitamin C is an antioxidant that helps neutralize harmful free radicals – the same free radicals that can cause many chronic diseases and accelerate the aging process (stop right there free radicals!).  Vitamin C is also critical in the formation of collagen, a building block of skin elasticity.  When collagen breaks down, wrinkles appear.  Applying Vitamin C to your skin directly can be 20 times more effective in enhancing your complexion, than if taken orally.  That is why topical Vitamin C is a crucial part of an effective skin care regimen.

The Natural Facelift?

Well a girl can dream… right? Vitamin C is at the very least, a step in the right direction towards preventing the need for a facelift (ouch!).

When topically applied, Vitamin C has three main skin metabolizing functions:

1.  As an antioxidant, it wards off free radicals (a result of UVA and UVB exposure), in turn, helping prevent cancer cells from forming.  It also minimizes sunburns and scar tissue.

2.  It stimulates the production of collagen, which smoothes fine lines, increases skin firmness, and leaves skin looking soft and supple.

3.  As a Melanin Inhibiter, it lightens skin tone and fades age spots, promoting a more even skin tone.

The “Common” Vitamin C for Your Skin

Synthetic Vitamin C, or Ascorbic Acid as it appears on most labels, is typically manufactured from genetically engineered corn sugars that are hydrogenated and processed with acetone (gross!).  This mass-produced form of Vitamin C is commonly used in “natural” and “organic” skin care products. This may be the more “cost effective” way to include Vitamin C in formulas, but it’s definitely not in your skin’s best interest.

The Truly Organic Vitamin C for Your Skin

Some of the natural sources of Vitamin C we use here at Root Science come in the form Rosehip, Hibiscus and Orange Peel. We source these 100% certified organic and unrefined, which means they not only contain Vitamin C but also bioflavanoids, phytonutrients, enzymes and antioxidants. It has been documented throughout history, that women in many cultures have benefited from the use of topical Vitamin C. Isn’t it time you welcome truly organic Vitamin C into your skin care regimen?

At Root Science, we pride ourselves on using only the highest quality, nutrient-dense, ingredients in our products.  This is why the decision to use superfruits and flowers that naturally contain Vitamin C in our formulas was a no brainer when compared to its processed, conventional counterpart.

Start getting your weekly dose of topical Vitamin C today by using our Reborn Face Mask and Polish Face Exfoliant. Your skin will “eat it up”!

Love your skin daily!

Please Note: Our continuous effort to use only natural ingredients in our products often comes with a price.  Rare and exotic ingredients such as Hibiscus, that are naturally sourced and not lab made, can be limited in supply and availability. Some reasons include seasonality, weather crisis, and abundance of crop.  Regardless, we never compromise on quality and will continue to rigorously scour for each and every ingredient.  Each Root Science product is lovingly handmade with natural ingredients – as long as Mother Nature cooperates.
